“ When in grief, John Harrison of Chapel of the Valley assured me that there was nothing for me to do regarding Social Security notification. Unfortunately, he was wrong. In a letter yesterday from Ms. Rhodes, Jane A (DOH) [email protected] regarding: "SS Notifications", she says, "it is up to the family to follow up with SSA, DMV etc to make sure folks know their family member has passed" Had I been accurately informed by John Harrison that I had any responsibility whatsoever in following up with SSA, I would have done so. Instead, I relied on his "professional" advice that I had nothing to do. As a result, I will have thousands of dollars of costs for lawyers and tax accounts, dozens of hours of work with the SSA and IRS to me, potential penalties and interest due the IRS for insufficient withholding, and an additional year of keeping the estate open, correcting this error he caused. ”
