Set in the heart of downtown Columbus, OH is Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Home. This facility has a prime location just minutes from Interstate 71 and within 13 miles of three cemeteries, including Union, Green Lawn and Catholic Cemeteries-Columbus.

Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Home is the oldest African American-owned mortuary in Columbus, dating back to 1905. The business was originally called the Whittaker Funeral Home, and then changed to Mrs. D.A. Whittaker & Sons. Occupying the same location since its founding, this funeral and cremation business was bought by the Diehls in 1969, at which time it became Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Home.

From the Whittakers to the Diehls, this funeral home has always been a family-operated institution. Three generations of Whittakers oversaw the business before the buyout, and now the third generation of the Diehl family, Ingrid M. Diehl, serves the community.

At Diehl-Whittaker, funeral service and cremation packages have been simplified to keep costs to a minimum. Direct cremation services are available for a low cost, as well. Even with the cost-effective pricing, families enjoy luxuries such as limousine transport to the burial site and motorcycle escort.

I wasn't very happy when I called to follow up with a prepaid service my mother has with this funeral home. What should have been a normal conversation between two people, turned out to be a conversation that sounded like I was talking to a man, but I was talking to a woman who seemed to be void of any professional character while conducting business. It was a shock! There was nothing calming about the woman's character. That gave me more shock and left me thinking, "how in the world did a simple conversation get off track so fast?" It was a shame really and proof the woman's conduct was above reproach.
