Hathaway & Clark Funeral Home was established in 1901 as the first African American-owned and operated funeral home in Louisville. The business was originally called James H. Hathaway Mortuary and has been housed in three locations, with the present Virginia Avenue address having been acquired in 1964.
James H. Hathaway passed this funeral home and cremation business to his daughter at the time of his death, and together, she and her husband renamed the institution Hathaway & Clark Funeral Home. Many members of the Clark family have held titles here throughout the years, and today, the legacy continues with the Provettes, descendants of the Clarks.
Ash scattering and Web broadcasting are some of the more unique services this funeral home offers; however, there are a wide selection of traditional funeral services and cremation offerings. Each service can be personalized to suit the client, and pre-planning is available for all options, including those clients that desire direct cremation or immediate burial.
