Herschel Thornton Mortuary is situated within the Adamsville community of Atlanta, GA, which is just under 8 miles from downtown. This funeral home serves nearly 58,000 residents of Adamsville, as well as those in other parts of southwestern Atlanta.
Founded in 1945, Herschel Thornton Mortuary was originally located by the Georgia Dome; however, the Urban Renewal Project of the 1960s allowed the owners to move the business to its present location. The cream-colored building features distinctive architecture and a unique drive-thru viewing path.
A husband and wife duo, Herschel E. Thornton, Jr. and Pinkye, began Herschel Thornton Mortuary to serve their community. Their son, Herschel E. "Chuck" Thornton III took over in 2007, and now his son and daughter work in conjunction with him to keep the traditions of this funeral home alive.
From its iconic drive-thru viewing window to personalized memorials, Herschel Thornton Mortuary has always been known for its individualized services. Families can explore numerous cremation offerings, including direct cremation and green cremation, as well as several funeral service offerings, such as green burials.
