“ My father passed away unexpectedly on 9/30/24 at age 78, having recently beaten cancer. Despite his many health challenges, his passing came as a shock to us all. A longtime friend of my father's recommended Gutterman Warheit in Boca Raton for handling his arrangements. My father was very proud of his Jewish heritage and would have wanted his final rites to honor that. Our family - my stepmother, stepbrother, sister-in-law, and myself, his only child - made an appointment with Gutterman Warheit the following day to make his arrangements. We were met by the funeral director, Kenneth Daniel McBride, who greeted us with only the blunt question, 'What do you want?' Being inexperienced in handling funeral arrangements, we were taken aback by his coldness. Expecting guidance, patience, and empathy, we received none. My stepbrother kindly expressed our need for information, but Mr. McBride continued with the same distant tone. Though he had numerous chances to show compassion, we left feeling unheard and unwelcome. In the end, we chose to honor my father’s wishes by arranging a cremation but decided to hold a separate service that didn’t involve Gutterman Warheit. We had the resources to work with the funeral home but couldn’t justify remaining where we felt such a lack of care. I can’t help but wonder if our treatment was influenced by the fact that my stepmother and stepbrother, both Hispanic and of darker complexion, are not Jewish. No one deserves this treatment, especially when grieving a loved one. Despite submitting an inquiry online, it has been three days, and Gutterman Warheit has yet to respond. The funeral home’s website claims a commitment to easing the burden of those grieving, but our experience was the opposite. I am writing this review not to disparage but to ask that Gutterman Warheit consider the profound impact of their words and actions during such delicate times. I would also appreciate a personal apology to my stepmother. I hope others proceed with caution when choosing this funeral home. ”
