“ I could write a dissertation on how horrible the service was but I’ll keep my remarks brief. If you’re a Muslim, or if you have a deep love for who you are laying to rest, consider not using this funeral home for their service. Not only was my father disrespected by, I believe, Belva (the owner), this establishment also attempted to change the price from what they originally stated it was. As my mother laid in a freezer, they changed the price for a service with minimal need of their help (google how Muslim bodies are prepared for more details on the process). As Ms. Cornelius, had to legally stay in the room as we washed and prepared my mothers body, she talked on the phone, she made rude remarks, and she made the space less sacred by doing so. She made sure to remind us several times that she was a funeral director and that she knew what she was doing, etc. Her job as a funeral director is a necessary one but when she wakes up in the morning and gets ready to handle people’s deceased loved ones, she should never enter a space with a pompous, insolent, and egotistical attitude as she did in my presence. These are all characteristics that should never enter a space where the dead are being cared for. My mother can only die once and this funeral home ruined what could have been the first step to honoring her body and her spirit. So as I stated in the beginning, if you love the people who are no longer with us on this earth, I’d advise you to choose an establishment that’s run with compassion, care, and integrity (attributes that are non-existent at Johnson and Jenkins). They don’t respect the dead. They only respect the dollar. ”
