Bunker Family Funerals & Cremation Garden Chapel are located at 33 North Centennial Way in the heart of Mesa; the funeral home is within 20 miles of two cemeteries and serves the wider Mesa area.

The eye-catching chapel and funeral home sit on beautiful landscaped grounds. The yellow brick building contains elegant family lounges and modern chapel that will accommodate any size of funeral service gathering, large or small, contemporary or traditional.

A consortium of investors, including Bryan L. Bunker and B. Allen Bunker, purchased the Gibbons Mortuary in 1964. That business had served the Mesa area since 1913. The Bunker family had previously run a funeral home in Las Vegas. When other Bunker family members joined the consortium, the family was able to buy out the other investors and take over the business in 1976. Today, second generation funeral director Randy Bunker owns and operates this funeral home and crematory and a second facility, University Chapel, at 3529 East University Drive in Mesa.

Funeral service options include direct cremation and burial, cremation with visitation or other type of ceremony and burial with church, chapel or graveside services or visitation. Veterans services area also performed.

My brother passed on Oct 26 and his ex-wife picked this place. My suggestion was a veteran’s cemetery service and if we went that route I would pay. I was assured everything was good. After many failed attempts to get answers from the ex, i call the funeral home. The moment I mentioned Keith’s name, the person on the other end started playing dumb and acting like I was trying to steal his SSN. Didnt make sense at first but did after the meeting. So the ex says document signing is the 3rd and answers the question I asked the phone person about 10 minutes after the failed call. I go to the signing since I’m the one paying it. We get there to be introduced to Heather, the funeral director. Her first words about the ex is “oh, we go back a long ways”. At that point I should have ran. Heather starts discussing the engraving on the urn and initially wasn’t going to show me. I asked about the burial plaque for the cemetery and was told “those papers will be filled out later”. Figured there would be delays due to government shutdown so I didn’t push it. Which I found out later that Heather and the ex were locked in eye contact with each other during my question like trying to figure our what to say. Good having witnesses. Immediately Heather says we need to discuss payment. My card was hacked the previous Friday so my wife was with me and swiped her card and signed for it. Then Heather rushes us off into a room with my brother’s body. As we are leaving, Heather and the ex were whispering in the hallway. Wife and I felt the whole experience was off. The next day when the payment clears the bank, I’m notified that the ex is keeping the ashes and to deal with it. Why would I pay to have my brother sitting on the flavor of the week’s nightstand?
