In 1937, G.C. Williams Funeral Home, Inc. was founded as G.C. Williams Funeral Director and Embalmer. The funeral and cremation business was originally located on Chestnut Street but relocated to the present location in 1964. Since its move, the white and green building has been remodeled and expanded to include comfortable facilities for customers and mortuary students alike.
G.C. Williams Funeral Home, Inc. was founded by the first female African American embalmer in Louisville, Georgia Cleopatra Williams. At first alone, then together with her two sisters, Williams grew her business until the 1960s at which time they had all passed and the business was sold. The tradition of service with dignity is continued by the new owners.
