Hillman, Pratt & Walton Funeral Home on W. Beaver is located within a short drive of downtown, serving families in Old La Villa and metropolitan Jacksonville. The funeral home serves all faiths and is within a short drive of several cemeteries.
The historic red brick building contains a tiny but utterly charming chapel that accommodates approximately 50 guests comfortably. With its original stained glass windows, dark hardwood floors and white wooden pews, the chapel is one of Jacksonville's few remaining turn-of-the-century buildings and a rare gem. The chapel greets visitors with cheerful red and white striped canopies over its windows; a sign on the door states this funeral home was first established by Mr. Lawton L. Pratt in 1900, making it Florida's oldest funeral home.
Overall funeral service includes direct cremation, but not direct burial. Traditional burial with graveside service or mausoleum interment services or cremation with memorial services are also provided; all funerals are personalized in accordance with families' needs, customs and traditions.
Today run by third-generation funeral director Tony Walton, who took over in 2002, the facility has since undergone careful restorative work to bring it back to its original Victorian appearance.
