From serving the homeless of Los Angeles to the celebrities of Beverly Hills, from the largest events to the most humble gatherings, Erik Larson has centered his life around meeting the needs of families during their time of grief. He majors in universal compassion for the bereaved: of all faiths, practices, and backgrounds.
During his career, Erik has personally served over two thousand families and counting, participating actively in every aspect of the mortuary business. In January 2012, Erik began working on a business plan for a new kind of mortuary for the city: one that would provide the highest-end goods and services for the most considerate prices. Following his vision, he founded and launched Larson Family Mortuary in 2013.
"The history of funeral service in America started with furniture business owners who had tools for making caskets on demand, strong backs, and big hearts. They would come to the residence with the needed equipment and compassion to help out families in a time of grief.
Our vision is to continue the legacy of what made the funeral business great in the first place: friendly neighbors helping out during a time of deep need, one person to another."

“ Dear Erik, Donna and I wanted to say what a great job Larson Family Mortuary did for our family in our darkest hour. Our son was taken from us in Los Angeles, California on December 11th and we lived all the way in Alexandria, VA. We were very lost at the whole situation. It hasn’t even been 3 months but I wanted to let you know how thankful our family is. I researched online for a funeral home and came across yours after reading some positive reviews. I wanted to make sure you were in Santa Monica, and my research proved to be spot on! The service your team provided at the Woodlawn facility was flawless. The compassion your team was consoling and genuine. My son’s cremation was carried out perfectly, down to every little detail. As I mentioned earlier, my son was shot and it was important that his friends and family were able to see him again at the viewing. The work done was masterful. I will never forget you, Gary, your company for your calming demeanor and compassion. Thanks! ”
“ Erik has truly created a business approach that far exceeds any expectations one may have, while providing compassion to meet the needs of those that are grieving. Our family is grateful that he allowed us to make our own decisions but still was helpful enough to guide us with information and other possible options. He led the services beautifully, and portrayed our feelings with sensitivity and creativity. Being reformed Jews, we are especially grateful that he could accommodate all of our needs. Thanks! ”
“ Thank goodness for all the people and their positive praises for Larson Family Mortuary. They were a blessing to our family. Losing my dad suddenly and unexpectedly was a very dark time, but Erik has been a shining light. Being my first time having to handle this kind of thing, Erik was kind, helpful, and compassionate and was able to guide me through it step by step. He provided such kindness when we were in shock. You will not find a more helpful and reasonable funeral home. We wholeheartedly recommend the Larson Family Mortuary. Erik eased our fears and helped console our fears with warmth and guidance. Thank you, Erik. Bless your loving heart! ”
“ Erik - I am wholeheartedly grateful to you for assisting myself and my sisters getting through the most difficult time of our lives; We wouldn’t have been able to make it through without your help. No other director would have even come close. You are genuine, calming, knowledgeable, easy-going, efficient and highly professional. The service was perfect in every way which has allowed the healing process to begin. It warms my heart to know that “L” is now at peace in her own neighborhood, close to the beach that she loved. The “Awesomest” Funeral Director in LA. ”
“ Couldn’t ask for more, 100%! Thank you. ”
“ The staff at Larson Family Mortuary were wonderful. They were very comforting to me and especially to my grieving mother when my father passed. Great service and very fair prices. We would definitely return. ”
“ In October, when my dad suddenly passed, we had had no prior arrangements made. After calling numerous funeral homes and mortuaries, I finally found Larson Family Mortuary for cremation services. Erik’s prices were very competitive but most importantly, he was immediately comforting and helpful on the phone. He made the process very easy for my mother and he handled all the paperwork needed with the county. ”
“ Erik was very patient with us and very comforting during our time of need when our mom, Rita, passed. The arrangements were made promptly and I could not ask for a nicer place or better service than Larson Family Mortuary ”
“ My brother was living assisted living facility in Thousand Oaks when he passed, but I was living in Maryland. I had made previous arrangements with Erik so I notified him when my brother passed and he immediately sent his driver to get the remains. The rest of the time was as easy and convenient. Larson Family Mortuary arranged the cremation and then had the ashes shipped to me in Maryland. Erik also handled the paperwork and ordered me 5 extra death certificates. The prices are more than reasonable at Larson Family Mortuary and more importantly, the service is outstanding. I recommend Larson Family Mortuary without reservation. ”
“ My brother and I were suddenly left with the responsibility of planning a funeral two weeks ago. We did a bit of research and online, and Erik was the most helpful person contacted so he definitely won us over. He has been nothing short of outstanding in helping us. Not only did Erik take care of all the paperwork and other end of life details, he also arranged a beautiful Visitation at the Larson Family Chapel. He was instrumental in arranging the trip out to sea to scatter the ashes. It wasn’t a problem for him to help us take care of shipping some of the ashes back to Europe as well. We were panicked, but Erik calmly made sure we were able to get through everything. Erik was exceptional, and we highly recommend him. ”
“ Everything that I write about the Larson Family establishment would be an understatement, especially things about Mr. Erik Larson. From the day of the passing, Erik was involved and made sure everything went smoothly. It may not sound like much, but my family requested the body to be shipped to another country for her final internment. Erik handled every single detail. All I had to do was receive constant updates from him and give those to the family. From the moment the remains were picked up to the moment they were placed on the plane, Erik was in charge and knew exactly what was going on, which was even more impressive considering a lot of the details had to be handled overseas. Of course I hope I will not need Erik’s services soon, but when the need does arise, I will not hesitate to contact Erik. If anyone is in need of funeral services - I am sorry for your loss - I strongly urge you to call Erik immediately. ”
“ Mr Erik Larson, the funeral director: Very courteous and offered refreshments and expressed condolences for our loss immediately upon meeting him. He made it very clear to us that he could and was willing to make our vision for our mother’s funeral come together. Erik was extremely helpful offering suggestions on conducting a Buddhist service at the chapel since my mother was a devout Buddhist. On the day of the service, Erik made sure everything went smoothly and was more than helpful with even the smallest details. ”
“ I would like to give my thanks to Erik Larson for arranging my ex’s cremation. Living in Tampa, I found out at midnight on a Saturday that in Los Angeles, my ex-husband had passed. We hadn’t spoken in 10 years, but somehow he knew I would be handling it for him. I had to locate family and managed to get a few days off but it was really cutting things close. I was given Larson Family Mortuary as an option for a low-cost funeral home. Immediately on the phone, Erik was professional and helpful and I knew I wanted him to handle all the arrangements. I called on a Friday, and within a week I was on a plane to LA. Everything was executed perfectly. Although the costs were low, the quality was not. I cannot thank Erik enough for everything he did to help me and my family. Erik even followed up later to make sure everything went alright. In today’s age, it’s hard to find this type of professionalism and dedication. ”
“ About 3 years ago my brother passed in the worst possible way. We were all alone in Los Angeles with an unreal amount of work to be done - we were devastated! For the first time, I believe that angels really do exist in the City of Angels. Erik is that angel! He was more helpful than one can be to a stranger. When he handled all the work that needed to be done, he was efficient and professional. God had mercy upon us and appointed Erik as our funeral director. We are still friends and we wish him success. ”
“ My grandfather passed at the beginning of the month due to cancer. It happened unexpectedly and were were not prepared. We actually used a separate company for the cremation but I didn’t realize I could do the cremation and the service together, and I was scrambling when I realized I needed to have his service in Santa Monica, where he lived. After a bit of research, I found Erik - a real bright light in this dark time. He helped us getting my grandpa’s military honors and made sure everything else we wanted was executed perfectly. Pastor Jim, who led my grandpa’s service was great and really made an effort to get to know my grandfather’s life so the speech was not generic but really personal and touching. Larson Family Mortuary does it right and is exactly how a company should operate during this point in people’s lives. After researching, we found a bunch of companies that we knew were out just make a quick buck, but Erik is not one of them. He is really out to help and knows what he’s doing. Quick response to emails, sets up everything with vendors promptly, and even has great recommendations. Thanks Erik and Jim, you guys are true angels. ”
“ My experience with Erik and the Larson Family Mortuary was definitely a bright light during a very dark time. Luckily, we found Erik after my uncle’s unexpected passing. Everything went perfectly and he was kind, compassionate, and extremely helpful. All the reviews don’t lie! Thank you Erik for going above and beyond our expectations. ”
“ Erik was amazing. He is conscientious and balances professionalism and compassionate friendliness perfectly. ”
