I used Alta Vista in Pacheco, CA when my brother passed in Sept. He had named our uncle as his designee and when HE passed our aunt became designee. My brother asked me to act as health proxy if he became incapacitated by illness. When he passed, my aunt asked me to make arrangements for cremation, and have his remains sent to her as it was his wish to be buried on her farm. I did but when it came time to pay the invoice, I had no money so my aunt offered to. I sent her all info I had, contacts, forms, etc. she would need to pay the invoice AND receive reimbursement by the VA. Also included was info on how she could obtain funds from my brother's bank acct. After 9 months and at least 2 reminders to my aunt about payment, I get a call from Tracy at Alta Vista accusing me of fraud, involvement by the San Francisco D.A., probate, and telling me the VA had a cancelled check for $2600 made out to me. I told her this was impossible as I was not authorized to request funds from anyone. Also on this call was my aunt who was listening to this woman's accusations. And she said nothing. Just 2 weeks before, my aunt had again offered to pay the invoice and again did nothing. I did authorize the cremation in lieu of anyone else taking responsibility - I assumed I could as I was his next of kin. Tracy accused me of fraud - signing papers on behalf of my brother while there was someone else with higher authority (my aunt) that I allegedly was aware of. I did not know until after that my aunt was designee. I called the VA who told me there was no $2600 check. What there WAS was a direct deposit order to my aunt from Sept . I told Tracy I would pay the invoice using credit cards and asked her 3 times for an invoice as the one sent to me originally didn't open. On the 3rd request, I told her if she did not send it by day's end, I would consider the matter closed; if she contacted me again, I would seek legal advice. It's been a week since that call. I haven't heard a peep out of her.

If I could give negative 10, I would. My son died two weeks ago, and I live in Wisconsin. We contacted this facility to have him cremated and his remains mailed to me. The paperwork and payment was completed online. HOWEVER, I was told my son would be sent out on a Wednesday; they did not get his remains to to post office until 12 minutes before closing which means his remains were sent out Thursday...that's okay. What is NOT OKAY is the fact that I received NO phone call, no email, NOTHING to let me know when my son's remains were sent out, nor DID I RECEIVE ANY EMAIL CONCERNING THE TRACKING NUMBER. By Saturday, I was frantic as no one seemed to know where my son's remains were. When I called to find out what was going on, I received the answering service which told me no one would be in the office until Monday. I demanded to speak with the director who proceeded to tell me he didn't work on weekends, now he would have to drive 45 minutes to get the tracking number, etc. I was also told point-blank that once they dropped the remains off at the post office, they were done and they did not send any email regarding a tracking number unless specifically requested by the family...REALLY??? All of this could have been avoided had his company sent an email to us letting us know the tracking number....anyone who does business with this organization does so at their own emotional peril.

I had the frustrating experience of interacting with their offices. This began in July of 2016. It is February 28, 2017 and have finally gotten results, negative though they may be. There was no resolve or professionalism on their part until the owner responded on a day that the phones were forwarded to him. He has the unfortunate pleasure of having an insufficient staff. They had no control over the malice that family members intended and therefore were stuck in the middle. It was not handled well at all.
