Luyben Family Dilday-Mottell Mortuary is located at 5161 East Arbor Road in central Lakewood, in the north-east of Long Beach. The funeral home has served the Long Beach and Lakewood communities since 1906 and uses nearby Forest Lawn Memorial Park as their preferred cemetery provider.
Funeral guests are welcomed by the friendly cream facade and red roof of a charming building surrounded by lawns. The mortuary contains elegant rooms equipped with modern amenities that can accommodate any size of funeral service gathering, large or small.
The merger of three prominent family-run mortuaries created the current business. Luyben-Dilday Mortuary was established in 1906, as was the Mottell family firm, who operated in downtown Long Beach from a funeral home located on the corner of 3rd and Alamitos. Noble and Marie Dilday opened their mortuary in 1936. The current location was purchased by John Luyben in 1966. The three families operate five locations, serving Long Beach, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Whittier and Covino.
The mortuary arranges direct burial and direct cremation, traditional burial and cremation with personalized ceremonies, permanent memorialization with grave markers or headstones, interment in mausoleum or vaults.
